Angelica's line about not having any brothers in "Satisfied?" Also not true.Īngelica, Peggy, and Eliza's youngest sisters weren't featured in Hamilton, but they had interesting lives of their own. There were two Schuyler sisters that didn't make Hamilton.Ĭatharine Van Rensselaer Schuyler gave birth to fifteen children (yep, 15!), eight of whom survived into adulthood-five girls, and three boys. Why? Because Schuyler, according to the Times Union, was the city's largest slave owner. The mayor of Albany, NY announced a statue of Philip Schuyler would be removed from the front of City Hall, where it had stood for over 100 years. Recently, the Schuyler family's history has been reexamined through a modern perspective. ![]() Their home, Schuyler Mansion, sat on 125 total acres, and Philip owned 20,000 acres total. Let's "rewind, rewind" back to 1756, when Angelica, the eldest, was born in Albany, New York.īoth were descended from aristocratic land-holding Dutch families who settled in Albany, and both were very wealthy (or, as Hamilton puts it, "loaded"). This is what you need to know about the true story of the real Schuyler sisters, and how their lives relate to (and at times, contradict) the action of Hamilton. You really get the sense that Angelica's the smartest person in the room, and she reads Hamilton within a moment of meeting him," Miranda said of "Satisfied." Philippa Soo stuns as Eliza, Hamilton's wife who reckons with his infidelity in the song " Burn." And Renée Elise Goldsberry masters Angelica's warp-speed rap in " Satisfied," meant to be a reflection of her mind's pace. Jasmine Cephas-Jones has a memorable turn as Peggy, the trio's youngest, before transforming into another character for Act II. In the movie version of Hamilton, the Schuyler sisters are played by three utter powerhouses. As Hamilton depicts, the Founding Father's epistolary relationship with his sister-in-law, Angelica, had an undeniable flirtatious undertone. However, he kept up lifelong correspondences with the other two Schuyler sisters, Angelica and Margarita (a.k.a. Hamilton married one sister, Elizabeth, in 1780. Everything to Know About Lin-Manuel Miranda's Wife. The song also echoes earlier Hamilton songs as Angelica ad Alexander write to one another, reminding the audience of their connection. It features Ramos as the youngest Hamilton starting his journey into wordplay like his father and Soo beatboxing for him, which makes the song incredibly fun. ![]() With the threat of losing his job hanging over his head in this one of Hamilton songs, Hamilton pulls away from his wife, his son, and his sister-in-law - choosing the pursuit of his legacy even over the people he's ostensibly pursuing it for, throwing himself into his work above all else. If Hamilton Act II is the "fall" part of Alexander Hamilton's rise-and-fall story, then "Take A Break" marks the tipping point right before that fall.

Many constitutional litigants are guilty people who wanted only to escape the consequences of their misdeeds.īut there are also some people who go to court for the Constitution, not for themselves: people like Mitsuye Endo. But it explains why we don’t celebrate them as heroes. Their rights are our rights the guilty, I like to say, are the first line of defense for the innocent. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have rights. Clarence Earl Gideon, whose case extended the right to counsel, was a drifter and a petty crook. Ernesto Miranda, whose case gave us the Miranda warning, was a kidnapper and a rapist. Unsavory individuals stand behind some of our great constitutional decisions. Why don’t we give constitutional litigants the same kind of honor as framers, soldiers, or judges? One reason is that sometimes they’re pretty bad people. These people too fought for our freedoms they too defended our rights. Even more, it leaves out the litigants, the individuals whose cases gave judges the opportunity to interpret the Constitution and the lawyers who pressed their arguments. It omits the activists, people like Martin Luther King, who sought to hold the nation to its constitutional commitments. Last might come the judges, who from the short and spare document the framers wrote have built the edifice of constitutional democracy we inhabit.īut this telling leaves out several categories of people. On Macs, a new network location gives you a clean networking start Here are the default pages, each of which works on any platform: You may have noticed your device loading when connecting to Wi-Fi you could go to that site directly to force your browser to test the connection. Then try visiting a non-HTTPS site is a great option as it's non-secured and maintained by ICANN.Īnother good option is to manually visit the site your device tries to open in the background when connecting to new Wi-Fi networks. Instead, open an Incognito window in your browser, which loads with a clean slate. You could clear your browser cache, but that's annoying, and you'd have to log back in to everything. And sometimes you can break it out of that loop by visiting something new. The problem could be that your browser cache is still trying to use the DNS info it knows to access sites, instead of loading the Wi-Fi login page. Sometimes you just need to try loading a new page Now re-connect to the Wi-Fi network, and it should work. Mac: Open Terminal, and enter sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder Windows: Open Command Prompt, and enter ipconfig /flushdns If not, you might need to clear the DNS cache on your computer. With that done, turn off your Wi-Fi then turn it back on-and the login screen should open. Select Configure DNS and tap Automatic.Īndroid: Open Settings, tap Advanced, then tap Private DNS. IOS: Open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and tap the i button beside your network name. There select Option an IP address automatically to use the default DNS servers. Click your connection name (typically Wi-Fi), select Properties, then click Internet Protocol Version 4 and select Properties again. Windows: Right-click your network icon in the system tray and select Open Internet and Network Settings, then click Network and Sharing Center. Select any DNS servers listed, and then tap the - button to remove them and apply your changes. Mac: Open System Preferences, select Network, Advanced, and then click the DNS tab. To fix that, just open your DNS settings and remove any alternate DNS servers. ![]() Many public Wi-Fi networks use their DNS server to tell your computer which login page to open-which doesn't work when you're using an alternative DNS server. If you've ever added Google DNS, OpenDNS, or any other alternative DNS to your network settings, though, that may be your problem. And that's good, at least with public Wi-Fi: your login page is more likely to load, and you won't need these tips. If you don't know where to change your DNS settings, you're likely fine your computer by default automatically picks up a DNS server from the Wi-Fi router, which is what the public Wi-Fi expects you to use automatically. If there's one other tip to remember, it's this-the trick that usually gets login pages to load: turn off your alternate DNS server.ĭNS servers, or domain name servers, match domain names such as to its server's IP address-which makes it much easier to visit websites than typing in 52.0.36.104. ![]() You might speed up your internet with a different DNS server-but not when connecting to public Wi-Fi. The AHRQ Safety Program for Surgery used the CUSP model and implementation science approaches to improve adherence to evidence-based SSI prevention practices in 197 hospitals. ![]() CUSP emphasizes improving safety culture through a continuous process of identifying and learning from errors, improving teamwork, and engaging staff at all levels in safety efforts. The comprehensive unit-based safety program (CUSP) has been demonstrated to be an instrumental approach to driving reductions in SSI. ![]() Key elements of organizational interventions to prevent SSIs (and HAIs in general) include improving safety culture, the use of robust data tracking and feedback mechanisms, and utilizing checklists or evidence-based bundles. Many organizations have been able to achieve sustained reductions in SSIs, and AHRQ has led notable efforts to encourage dissemination and implementation of SSI prevention strategies. However, as with many other quality problems, implementing the recommended methods as standard practice and sustaining the use of preventive interventions has been challenging. Adherence to these clinical standards (for example, administration of appropriate antimicrobial prophylaxis) is routinely tracked in the form of process measures that, if adhered to, should reduce the incidence of SSI. The CDC has also developed guidelines (last updated in 2017) summarizing the evidence for clinical interventions to prevent SSI the World Health Organization also issued SSI prevention guidelines in 2016. Both the NHSN and NSQIP definitions are widely used for both quality improvement and research purposes. These definitions are also used by the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), although NSQIP uses slightly different methods of surveillance for infections. The CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) has developed standards for SSI measurement. Prevention of Surgical Site InfectionsĪccurate measurement can be a challenge in patient safety, but prevention of SSIs (and HAIs in general) has benefited from the development of standard metrics that allow for tracking of infection rates over time and comparison of infection rates between facilities. Information on other types of health care–associated infections (HAIs) may be found in the Health Care–Associated Infections Primer. This Primer will provide an overview of the prevention of SSI, with a focus on system-level interventions. While many of these risk factors are not modifiable, the majority of SSIs are considered preventable, and recent advances have improved our insights as to how hospitals can systematically prevent these infections. Risk factors for SSI include patient factors (such as age, tobacco use, diabetes, and malnutrition) and procedure-specific risk factors (including emergency surgery and the degree of bacterial contamination of the surgical wound at the time of the procedure). Although SSIs are less common following ambulatory surgery than after inpatient procedures, they are a frequent source of morbidity in these patients as well. They are the leading cause of readmissions to the hospital following surgery, and approximately 3% of patients who contract an SSI will die as a consequence. Although most infections are treatable with antibiotics, SSIs remain a significant cause of morbidity and mortality after surgery. SSIs occur in 2% to 4% of all patients undergoing inpatient surgical procedures. Surgical site infection (SSI)-defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as infection related to an operative procedure that occurs at or near the surgical incision within 30 days of the procedure, or within 90 days if prosthetic material is implanted at surgery-is among the most common preventable complication after surgery. Increasing numbers of patients also undergo surgery at ambulatory surgery centers (facilities specifically designed for certain types of surgery after which the patient can be discharged home directly). ![]() The most common types of inpatient surgical procedures include cesarean section, orthopedic procedures (hip and knee replacement, hip fracture repair), neurosurgical procedures (spinal fusion and laminectomy), and intraabdominal procedures (cholecystectomy and colorectal resections). According to data from AHRQ, more than 10 million patients undergo surgical procedures as inpatients each year, accounting for over one-fourth of all hospital stays. The aftercare for industrial and scaffold piercings is the same. Placements that pass through thicker cartilage can cause more discomfort than those in thinner areas, and barbells that are too long or too short can cause irritation and pain. It is also worth noting that the pain level of these piercings can depend on the placement and the type of jewelry used. However, some people may find one type of piercing to be more painful than the other. Both types of piercings use the same needle size and insertion technique, so the level of discomfort is usually the same. The pain level of both industrial and scaffold piercings is similar and depends largely on the person’s pain tolerance. It is also possible to have both an industrial piercing and a scaffold piercing at the same time. For industrial piercings, one hole is usually placed near the top of the ear and one near the lobe, while for a scaffold piercing, the holes may be placed close together for a more dramatic look. The placement of the holes is also different for these two piercings. The shape of the bar can drastically change the look of both industrial and scaffold piercings. However, the difference lies in the location of the bar – for industrial piercings, the bar is placed horizontally across the upper cartilage of the ear, while for a scaffold piercing, the bar forms a loop in the upper cartilage. Difference in Placementīoth industrial and scaffold piercings involve two piercings connected by a bar. As with industrial piercings, scaffold piercings require minimal aftercare and can heal quickly if properly cared for. They are less common than industrial piercings, but can still serve as a unique piece of body art. Scaffold piercings also have some similarities with traditional ear piercings such as tragus piercings and rook piercings. It is usually done with a curved barbell, which is more comfortable for the wearer than a straight barbell used in an industrial piercing. However, the difference is that for a scaffold piercing, the bar passes through the upper cartilage of the ear in a loop. What is a Scaffold Piercing?Ī scaffold piercing is similar to an industrial piercing in the sense that it is also a two-hole piercing connected by a solid bar. Industrial piercings can heal relatively quickly as long as they are given proper care. They are also relatively low-maintenance and require minimal aftercare. Industrial piercings are trendy and are often paired with other types of piercings. Industrial piercings may also be done through other cartilage areas, such as the tragus or helix. The most popular placement for industrial piercings is near the top of the ear and near the lobe. It usually requires two separate piercings one in the upper cartilage and a second lower piercings. ![]() ![]() This piercing passes through the upper cartilage of the ear, usually in a horizontal line. ![]() What is an Industrial Piercing?Īn industrial piercing consists of two holes connected with a solid bar. ![]() How users can ignore the same finding class(es), findings on the same code, findings on certain paths, or conditionally ignoring things, becomes very important to filter the signal from the noise. This is one of the places where the third set of components comes into play and can be a real differentiator between SAST applications. These types of issues come from asking too much of the SAST application and we should focus on locating vulnerable code patterns - leaving it to people to vet and sort the findings. In those cases, engineers are then left with the subjective question of whether to classify a finding as a true or false positive where an application’s users can execute arbitrary code in an application, that they’d need to be fully and properly authenticated and authorized to do. However, for these types of apps, it’s their primary purpose. In most environments, this is the worst possible scenario. For example, systems administration applications which executes shell commands, via parameters passed in a web request. ![]() Things are even more complicated for applications that incorporate vulnerable code patterns by design. Some engineers might say a true positive is a demonstrably exploitable condition, while others would say matching the vulnerable pattern is all that matters, regardless of the broader context. This leads to our first issue when attempting to quantitatively measure how good a SAST tool is - what defines true/false or positives/negatives? On one hand, you might get a tool that doesn’t find the bug you know is in the code (a false negative - FN) or on the other, it might return a bunch of useless supposed findings that are either lacking any real impact or potentially just plain wrong (a false positive - FP). The rules are usually the source of most SAST complaints because ultimately, we all hope ideally that the tool produces perfect results, but that’s unrealistic. SAST backgroundĪ SAST tool generally consists of a few components 1) a lexer/parser to make sense of the language, 2) rules which process the output produced by the lexer/parser to find vulnerabilities and 3) tools to manage the output from the rules (tracking/ticketing, vulnerability classification, explanation text, prioritization, scheduling, third-party integrations, etc). ![]() We have decided to share our results here.
